About Me

Claudia Blaess

My name is Claudia Blaess, I’m German, living in Ireland for over 20 years. I completed my Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy in 2014 with Churchtown Counselling and in 2021, I finished a BA (Hons) Psychology degree with Dublin City university. I am an accredited member with APCP (Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapist in Ireland) and I am a Graduate Member with PSI (The Psychological Society of Ireland). In 2023 I completed my Masters in Child and Adolescent Mental Wellbeing.

I work with teenagers, from 12 years of age; adults and couples and provide person-centred therapy, as well as using elements from CBT – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and Compassion-Focused Therapy. In addition, I also provide tools to regulate the Nervous System, which is very beneficial for Anxiety.

Person-centred therapy, or client-centred counselling, is a form of psychotherapy developed by Carl Rogers. It is focused on how the client perceives themselves and less on the interpretation of unconscious thoughts or processes.

CBT – cognitive behavioural therapy is more structured and works based on the concept, that how we think (cognition), behave and feel is linked.
Let’s look at a job interview for example. If I think that I am not good enough and that I don’t have a chance (thoughts), I most likely will be very nervous, make less of an effort or undersell myself in the interview (behaviour). If I then do not get the job, that can leave me feeling upset and strengthened in my earlier thoughts (that I’m not good enough).

Therapy can help address these negative CBT circles.

Mindfulness encourages us to observe and be, rather the react and do. In therapy we will work on disengaging the auto-pilot mode and become more present in the moment, choosing how to respond mindfully to any situation.

“Mindfulness refers to the awareness that emerges by paying attention, on purpose, non-judgementally to the present moment.” (Jon Kabat-Zinn)

Compassion-Focused Therapy aims at cultivating self-compassion, which is hugely beneficial to target shame and self-criticism.
